Duran Duran 1984

Nelle prime settimane del 1984 l'album “Seven and the Ragged Tiger” diventa disco d’oro e di platino; il singolo “Union of the Snake” raggiunge il secondo posto nella classifica canadese.
La band pubblica il nuovo singolo “New moon on Monday” il cui video viene girato tra Parigi e il sud della Francia.

At the beginning of 1984, "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" went gold and platinum; the single "Union of the Snake" reached #2 in the Canada top ten.
The band released the new single "New moon on Monday": the videoclip was filmed in Paris and in the south of France.

Intanto il
"Sing Blue Silver Tour" continua tra Giappone, Canada e Stati Uniti.

Durante questo tour di grande successo vengono registrate le tracce che andranno a comporre il disco live "Arena" nonchè i filmati che diventeranno, alcuni mesi più tardi, i film "Arena" e "As the lights go down", il documentario "Sing Blue Silver" ed il videoclip di "The Reflex".

In the meantime,
"Sing Blue Silver Tour"
reached Japan, Canada and USA.

During this very successful tour the band recorded the tracks for the new live album "Arena". The films, some months later, were included in "Arena", "AS THE LIGHTS GO DOWN", the documentary "Sing Blue Silver" and the videoclip "The Reflex".

La rivista musicale “Rolling Stone” dedica la copertina del 2 febbraio ai Duran Duran definendoli “Fab Five” con chiaro riferimento ai Beatles.

February 2nd: Duran Duran on the cover of the music magazine "Rolling Stone". The "Fab Five" as the mag named them obviously referring to the Beatles.

Il 16 aprile esce in Inghilterra e USA il singolo "The Reflex", che raggiunge la prima posizione sia delle classifiche americane (dopo soli 5 giorni) che di quelle inglesi (dopo 12 giorni).

On April 16th, the band publilshed "The Reflex" in UK and USA. It reached #1 in the US charts (in only 5 days!) and in the UK charts (in 12 days).

L’11 giugno è la prima uscita ufficiale della neo coppia Simon & Yasmin, alla premiere del film “Indiana Jones e il tempo maledetto”.

June 11th: at the premiere of the movie "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", Simon and Yasmin made their first public apparition together.

Il 27 luglio 1984, a Napoli, si celebra il matrimonio tra Roger Taylor e Giovanna Cantone.

July 2th: in Naples (Italy), the wedding of Roger Taylor and Giovanna Cantone was celebrated.

Il 18 agosto, a Londra, Nick Rhodes sposa con rito civile Julie Anne Friedman; il matrimonio è seguito da un lussuoso party al Savoy Hotel.

August 18th: in London, Nick Rhodes got married to Julie Anne Friedman with a private civil cerimony; after the wedding, a luxury party at the Savoy Hotel was held.

Due giorni dopo nasce Andrew James Taylor, primogenito di Andy e Tracey.

2 days after, Andrew James Taylor, the first son of Andy and Tracey, was born.

Il 14 settembre Simon e Nick partecipano agli MTV Video Awards e premiano Cyndi Lauper come Best Female Music Video per “Girl Just Want to Have Fun”.

On September 14th, Simon and Nick attended the MTV Video Awards and Cyndi Lauper was awarded as Best Female Music Video (for "Girls Just Want to Have Fun") by them.

In ottobre vengono pubblicate la VHS di “Dancing on the Valentine” e il nuovo singolo “The Wild Boys”, che raggiunge il n.2 nelle classifiche inglesi e USA.

October: VHS "Dancing on the Valentine" and the new single "The Wild boys" were released. The single reached 2nd position in the UK and US charts.

A Novembre viene pubblicato l’album live ARENA, seguito dall’omonimo film/live, dal documentario “Sing Blue Silver” e infine da “As the lights go down” proiettato solamente nei cinema americani e da MTV.

November: live album ARENA, the homonymous live documentary, "Sing Blue Silver" and "As the lights go down" were published. "As the lights go down" was shown only in the american cinemas and on MTV.

Nello stesso periodo, John e Andy cominciano a prendere contatti con diversi artisti per la realizzazione del progetto che prenderà il nome di “The Power Station”.

At the same time, John and Andy, started to contact some musicians for the realization of the project later named "The Power Station".

	Nick, nel frattempo, pubblica il suo libro di polaroids “Interference”. "Interference" - the book of polaroids shots - by Nick Rhodes was published.

BAND AID: Il 25 e 26 novembre i Duran Duran raggiungono i Sarm West Studios di Londra per intervenire nell’incisione della canzone “Do they know it’s Christmas?" insieme ai personaggi più importanti della scena pop inglese. BAND AID: november 25th and 26th: Duran Duran reached the Sarm West Studios in London for the recording of the song "Do they know it's Christmas?" together with the most popular english singers and bands. L’anno si conclude con la partecipazione di Simon e John durante il concerto che i Frankie Goes To Hollywood tengono per la notte di capodanno di MTV.
